Women’s inmate pod in county prison under quarantine due to COVID

The women’s inmate pod in the county prison is under quarantine because one inmate tested positive for COVID-19.

The quarantine, which is expected to be lifted Wednesday, was ordered after an inmate tested positive for COVID last week while she was receiving treatment at Butler Memorial Hospital, said Joe DeMore, warden.

He said the quarantine was put into place for seven days after the positive test was reported.

“One female tested positive at the hospital. As precaution, we instituted our quarantine procedure,” DeMore said.

During the quarantine, the 50 female inmates spend most of their time in their cells, but are given some recreation time, he said.

There are no COVID cases among the 400 male inmates, he said.

DeMore said there has been a handful of positive COVID tests among employees over the last six months.
