County Special Olympians earn gold
PHILADELPHIA Special Olympics Butler County attended the 22nd Fall Festival at Villanova University last weekend and brought home numerous medals.
Winning gold medals in 7-on-7 soccer were team members Jackie Abel, Clint Atkinson, Ben Bennett, Rosalind Burns, James Caldwell, Tod Johnson, Melissa McKinnis, Stephanie Myers, Austin Sullner and Carla Steffy.
Receiving gold in individual skills volleyball were Haley Spohn, Shawn Kuntz and Larry Fend. Paul Hoolahan received a silver medal.
Bocce teams receiving silver medals were Tommy Hastungs and Miles Morris, and Tim Spence and David Pizor. Volleyball team members getting silver medals were Dan Harlan, Amber Merrison, Don Monn, Bruce Pryor, Brian Reinhart, Robert Schettler and Val Stiffy.
In other Special Olympics activities:
n Shawn Kuntz won a gold medal in bocce skills at the recent Western Fall Sectional held at Slippery Rock University. Kristen Lindsey and Jeff Walsh, Tim Spence and David Pizor, Pam Bryant and Betsy Cable, Jack Bowen and Matt Simons all won gold in bocce duo competition.
Winning silver medals were Miles Morris and Tommy Hastings, Marci Neill and Kim Bingham.
n Butler County bocce athletes completed in the recent Allegheny County meet at Middle Road Community Park. Bocce duos winning gold were Tim Spence and David Pizor, Kristen Lindsey and Jeff Walsh, and Tommy Hastings and Miles Morris.
Winning silver were Jack Bowen and Matt Simons, and Betsy Cable and Pam Bryant.
Dottie Bowen and Shawn Kuntz took bronze.
