BUTLER TWP — A Connoquenessing woman was charged Thursday with leaving an 11-month-old boy unattended in a running vehicle while grocery shopping.

Leela A. Legare, 39, was charged by township police with endangering the welfare of children and leaving an unattended child in a motor vehicle after an incident Aug. 23 at ALDI in Butler Commons, according to a criminal complaint.

Police say Legare left an 11-month-old boy in her Honda Odyssey while she was inside the store for about 20 minutes.

Police say the car was left running and unlocked with the windows rolled up, but the air conditioning was not running or was not set appropriately to cool the vehicle.

A township police officer responded and requested a Butler Ambulance Service unit respond to the lot. Paramedics allegedly found that the child had a low-grade fever.

Legare is scheduled to appear in district court Oct. 19.
