MIDDLESEX TWP — A new face will be seen around the municipal building come the end of the month.

Supervisors voted unanimously at their reorganizational meeting on Monday to hire Eric Kaunert as the new township manager. He will earn $72,500.

Kaunert replaces Scot Fodi, who in September accepted a position as public works director for Penn Township, Westmoreland County. Fodi had been Middlesex’s manager for 10 years.

Interim township manager Gerald Patterson said Tuesday that Kaunert’s experience as a former manager in Ambridge, Beaver County, plus his current job as an associate with Delta Development Group in Pittsburgh, sealed the deal for supervisors.

“He’s got some experience in planning and zoning, and we are a developing community,” Patterson said.

In his position with Delta Development, Kaunert’s duties have included land development site evaluations, preparing federal and state grant applications for municipalities and developers, preparing zoning as well as subdivision and land development ordinances, and providing consulting services to the Moon Township, Beaver County, transportation authority, Patterson said.

Kaunert earned a bachelor’s degree in history from the University of Pittsburgh, and a master’s degree in public administration from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Va.

Supervisors chairman Mike Spreng said he thinks Kaunert will fit nicely in the growing township.

“We interviewed quite a few people, and he seemed to be the best one for the job,” Spreng said.

Patterson said Kaunert’s employment as the Ambridge manager caught his eye. Kaunert worked in that position from June 2010 to March 2013.

“He’s got experience as a manager, so he knows the processes,” Patterson said.

He said Kaunert will take his seat in the manager’s office no later than Jan. 26.
