Hartman cruises to win
Christian Hartman had himself a night.
The Freeport senior right-hander struck out eight, did not walk a batter and tossed a two-hitter Friday as the Yellowjackets shut out Karns City, 7-0, at Michelle Krill Field at Historic Pullman Park.
Hartman also delivered three singles and scored three runs for Freeport (3-12).
“It all just came together for him,” Freeport coach Ed Carr said. “Christian is a true leader. We have a young team and the other kids look up to him.”
Hartman was quick to credit his teammates for the win, his first of the season.
“I am nothing without those guys,” he said. “I love every player on this team. I get emotional just thinking about them.”
Ethan Lasinski had a run-scoring triple, Brady Stivenson and Zach Clark two singles each for Freeport.
Luke Garing doubled and Hunter Troutman singled for Karns City (5-4).
Hartman threw 75 pitches. He hit the first batter he faced.
“Our pitchers threw 150 pitches and their kid throws 75,” KC coach Josh Smith said. “He did a great job.”
Tyler Gillis had 11 kills and Carson Stein had 32 passes as Butler swept Pine-Richland 25-14, 25-16, 25-19.Kaleb Wojnar added 23 assists for the Golden Tornado (6-5, 5-2).
