Sign Innovation to move into Zelie
ZELIENOPLE — Sign Innovation will move into the borough in February, President Ray Roccon said.
The sign production company will consolidate its three locations in Evans City and Harmony into one larger building on Halstead Boulevard.
The new building was completed this month.
“It has good access to the highway and it’s a good business environment,” Roccon said.
The Evans City location was closed about two weeks ago and both Harmony locations are being transferred over to the new, 32,536-square-foot building in Zelienople. Roccon said 30 people will be employed. The company has been open since 1983.
The new building has 53 existing parking spaces.
“It’s pretty much what we expected to build,” he said. “Everything went smoothly.”
The second phase for the company will be a 50,000-square-foot expansion to the building and a second building that would be about 95,000 square feet, both of which will be leased to other companies.
Borough manager Don Pepe said the business coming into the area is “great,” and added that the borough is able to provide Roccon the utilities at the business park.
“The borough was not able to serve with electricity in that part of town historically because we didn’t have the capacity many years to supply three-phase power,” Pepe said. “I’m glad we’re able to help him.”
The building sits where the former Pennsylvania Collision Parts was until 2008, when it burned down.
That company moved into an Allegheny County warehouse and took 30 jobs with it.
“Anytime a business suffers a loss like that, you don’t have that revenue or you don’t have that capacity of industry in a borough. It’s harmful,” Pepe said.
Roccon said the benefits of consolidating into one location include easier control, lower expenses, easier to manage people and better control quality.
“It’s the economics of business,” Roccon said.
He said there is a possibility that a grand opening will be held in February when borough council members, customers and other people might be invited to tour the building.
