SHIPPENSBURG — Slippery Rock High wrestler Forrest Christmann won the 2010 Middle Atlantic Wrestling Association Western Regional Championship in the 189-pound division Sunday.
Christmann qualifies as the first seed for the Eastern National Wrestling Championships in Salisbury, Md., next month.
PITTSBURGH — First-team All-American and Slippery Rock University men's soccer captain Jeremy Deighton signed a one-year contract to play for the Pittsburgh Riverhounds of the USL Second Division during the 2010 season.Deighton spent the last three weeks on a tryout with the Riverhounds, playing in four preseason games against college teams, recording five goals and one assist as the team went 4-0.Deighton led the PSAC and Atlantic Region in scoring as a senior, netting 21 goals and seven assists for 49 points. He also led in game-winning goals (nine) and hat tricks (two).
ELLWOOD CITY — Robert McClellan of Butler Country Club and Ryan Sikora of Pittsburgh Field Club joined amateurs Geoff Patterson and Mark Young to finish second at the Nike Golf Pro-Pro-Am-Am at Olde Stonewall Golf Club Monday.The foursome finished with a total score of 133, bettered only by John Rech of Rolling Hills and Kevin Shields of Sewickley Heights along with Chuck Nettles and Chad Warmbein, who carded a 132.McClellan and Sikora also placed second in the professional better ball tournament with a 64, one stroke behind Gordon Vietmeier of The Club at Nevillewood and Ed Vietmeier of Shenango Lake Golf Course.
