SR council weighs wintertime change
SLIPPERY ROCK — Borough council is considering removing parking from part of Normal Avenue.
Councilman Itzi Meztli said at Tuesday’s council meeting that eliminating parking from Normal Avenue between East Cooper Street and Maltby Avenue from Nov. 1 to April 1 for snow removal makes sense.
During the winter with snow, the narrow street effectively becomes a one-way street when there are cars parked, he said.
Meztli said this proposal seemed like a good compromise compared to removing parking year-round or making the street one way.
Council President Dave Miller asked if council only wants to look at Normal. He noted that Maple Avenue also is a similarly narrow street.
“Maybe we need to take a look at other streets,” Miller said.
Councilman Bob Bowser said when it comes to removing parking from streets, a piecemeal approach probably is the best since many residents park on streets.
He agreed that parking needed to be removed, but said it might not be palatable to residents.
Council will vote to advertise the measure in October and likely will vote on it in November.
