Knoch tennis joins WPIAL semifinals
The Knoch girls tennis team advanced to the WPIAL 2A Team Championships’ semifinal round with a 5-0 victory over Derry Wednesday. The match was played at Seneca Valley High School.
Seeded No. 2 in the tournamen, the Knights won their second successive match by a 5-0 score. They will face No. 3 seed Beaver at a date, site and time to be determined.
Top-seeded Sewickley Academy faces No. 4 seed South Park in the other semifinal.
Mars swept Knoch, 3-0,, the scores of the section clash being 25-19, 25-13, and 25-23. The Knights’ Madi Gardner recorded 19 service points while teammate Nina Szymanski had 23 digs.
Knoch’s record drops to 4-5 in-section and 6-8 overall.
Hunter Berry scored three goals as Slippery Rock improved to 7-0-1 in region play with a 4-0 victory over Greenville. Trent Davey scored the other Rocket tally.
Connor Wallace made seven saves in goal to get the shutout. Slippery Rock, 11-3-1 overall, plays Saturday at Knoch.
