Catherine Esther Day, 90, formerly of Karns City, died Monday at the DuBois Nursing Home in Clear-field County after a period of failing health.

Born in Butler County, Nov. 3, 1916, she was the daughter of L. Ralph and Faye McMahan Emery.

She was a member of the Karns City United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Day was a 1933 graduate of the Fairview Township Karns City High School. She also was a graduate of The Butler Business College and had been a secretary at the Witco Corp. in Petrolia and at the Chicora Elementary School prior to her marriage.

She played the baritone horn with Pythian Sunshine Girls Band of Chicora during the 1930s.

Surviving are two sons, Donald E. Day and his wife, Margaret, of Bruin and John D. "Jack" Day of Ridgway; a granddaughter, Donna J. Lau of Clarkson, N.Y.; a grandson, Donald E. "Donnie" Day of Oakland Township; and two great-grandchildren, Jarod and Isabelle Lau, both of Clarkson. She also is survived by a brother, Loren Emery and his wife, Dorothy, of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.

Her husband, Donald William Day, whom she married Oct. 16, 1937, in Cumberland, Md., died Feb. 9, 1978. She also was preceded in death by two sons, Paul Ralph Day, who died Feb. 5, 1960; and Thomas George Day, who died Aug. 20, 2000; a granddaughter, Catherine Anne Day, who died Nov. 24, 1971; and two brothers, John Reed "Jack" Emery and Dean Emery.

<B>DAY </B>— Friends of Catherine Esther Day, who died Monday, April 30, 2007, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the <B>Richard d. Hillis funeral home</B>, 102 Argyle St., Petrolia.Visitation also will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the Karns City United Methodist Church, where the funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Jacqueline Bish, retired pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at the Bear Creek Cemetery, Petrolia.Memorial donations may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
