Ruth Lynn Vereb
Ruth Lynn Vereb, 70, of School Street in Bruin passed away at her home at 8:45 p.m. Friday following a lengthy illness.
She was born in Homestead, Allegheny County, on June 8, 1938, and was the only child of J. Kenneth Thomson and Marie Helen Horey Thomson.
She was a member of the Bruin United Methodist Church and the Order of Eastern Star, Parker City Chapter No. 60.
She was a graduate of the Munhall High School Class of 1956, and then received her bachelor of science degree at the Indiana (Pa.) University, and her master's degree in education at Clarion University.
She taught elementary education in the Karns City School District for 25 years, retiring in 2001.
She is survived by two sons, M. James Vereb and his wife, Peggy, of Joshua, Texas, and Matthew D. Vereb and his wife, Penny, of Rimersburg; two daughters, M. Christine Stroup and her husband, Christopher V. of Valencia and Susan L. Vargo and her husband, Matthew A., of Chattanooga, Tenn.; six grandchildren, Kara Stroup of Valencia, Allison Vargo, Samantha Vargo and Jessica Vargo, all of Chattanooga, and Noah and Truman Vereb, both of Rimersburg; an aunt considered as a sister, LaVerne Sullivan of Munhall; and her loving yellow Lab companion, Cassie.
The last surviving member of her immediate family, she was preceded in death by her parents and a granddaughter, Lindsay Marie Stroup, who died May 26, 1986.
<B>VEREB — </B>Friends of Ruth Lynn Vereb, who died Friday, Feb. 20, 2009, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the <B>RICHARD D. HILLIS FUNERAL HOME,</B> 102 Argyle St., Petrolia, and from 3 to 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Bruin United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. at the church with her pastor, the Rev. Wade R. Berkey, officiating.
