Church reportedly struck by lightning

St. Fidelis Parish on Penn Avenue in Lyndora was reportedly struck by a lightning bolt Saturday.

Fire crews responded to a Lyndora church Saturday afternoon for a report of the steeple being struck by lightning.

The lightning strike was reported around 3:45 p.m. Saturday at St. Fidelis Parish on Penn Avenue. The report indicated the steeple had been struck by a lightning bolt.

Various units responded to the scene to investigate. The shingles on the steeple appeared to be damaged.

No information was available at the scene.

The incident occurred during torrential rain that hit the area Saturday afternoon. A number of area roads were reported to be covered by water. The entire county was under severe weather and flash flood warnings from the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh.
