Buffalo set to buy park land
BUFFALO TWP — The township now has enough money to buy the former Oregon Club camp on Monroe Road.
The township previously was short $30,000 of the total $170,000 asking price for the nearly 5 acres, which is the site of a future township park.
Township solicitor Larry Lutz said in an interview more than $40,000 is coming to Buffalo from F & H Property Development in Gibsonia, the developer of the Chesterfield Estates housing plan on Sarver Road.
“We have enough cash,” Lutz said.
Instead of creating a recreation area in the plan, F & H will pay a fee-in-lieu that the township can use for recreational development elsewhere.
Phase I of the plan calls for 28 homes to be built.
Along with the fee-in-lieu money, the township has $90,000 in a state grant, $32,000 from the Audobon Society and $18,000 accrued from $1,500 monthly lease payments made to camp property owner Steven Ford.
“We’re going to mix-and-match,” said township Supervisor John Haven, board chairman.
Haven said the property, which is adjacent to Little Buffalo Creek, will be a nature park.
He pointed out the township now would need to seek money for park maintenance, with future costs including $150,000 to refurbish the former clubhouse.
“We’re going to incur costs along the way,” Haven said.
He said work will include repairing the roof and gutters of the former clubhouse and making it handicapped useable.
