Oct. 1 — Nathan J. Vanderzee, 39, of Penn Township was charged with having the medication Subutex without a prescription last month in Lyndora.Police said they found Vanderzee at Bessemer Avenue and Lehigh Street about 11:50 a.m. Sept. 1 intoxicated with one shoe on and several items on the sidewalk around him. A subsequent pat-down search turned up a cylindrical container, according to court documents, with a partially crushed pill inside.He told police that the pill was Subutex and claimed he had a prescription for the drug. An officer, before letting the defendant arrange for a ride home, advised him to bring them the prescription or he would be charged.He is charged with possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia, and public drunkenness.
Sept. 27 — Michael J. Simms, 31, of Connoquenessing Township was charged with drug possession and driving on drugs stemming from an August traffic stop on Route 8 in Center Township.Police said they stopped Simms about 12:15 p.m. Aug. 29 after getting a call for an erratic driver and seeing his car cross over the white fog lane. Field sobriety tests indicated he was impaired, court documents said.He was subsequently searched and found with a vape pen with suspected marijuana residue. Police said he also was found with a candy container with 10 pills that were later identified as Xanax, for which he did not have a prescription.The defendant showed impairment during field sobriety tests and he was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test. Toxicology reports later showed he had several drugs in his system, documents said, including alprazolam, buprenorphine and marijuana.Simms is charged with possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia, driving under the influence of a controlled substance, failing to keep right and careless driving.
