Baglier Buick, GMC, Mazda

Cindy Martsolf, warranty administrator, coordinates a Labor Day weekend fundraising car cruise supported by Dennis Baglier of Baglier Buick.

Denny Baglier was taught to be kind, a hard worker and generous when able, but “volunteer” wasn’t at the top the lessons he learned as a child.

“I’ve become more and more involved as I have grown up,” he said of his role as a Rotary Club member, as well as a successful businessman, owner of Baglier Buick, GMC, Mazda car dealership on Route 8 in Penn Township.

“Certainly, as I have grown financially, the opportunity to help has grown. Now there is more opportunity to help, and I’m always being asked,” Baglier said.

One of those asking is his wife, Ann Baglier, who has served on multiple United Way of Butler County committees, as well as its board of directors and two terms as the campaign chairwoman.

Baglier has also found the volunteering spirit in his dealership. He said the staff’s efforts came to the forefront in November 1996 when his son, John Baglier, 18, was kidnapped and murdered.

“When the tragedy happened, well, the whole community stepped up and the staff came up with the idea of the John Baglier Scholarship,” Baglier said.

Cindy Martsolf, a Baglier warranty administrator, said the staff has a car cruise on the Saturday of Labor Day weekend with a donation to enter a vehicle, a Chinese auction, a 50/50 raffle and food sales. The money raised funds the scholarship.

The employees are also involved in Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Butler County and the United Way, holding bowling, golfing and fishing fundraisers and events.

“It feels good to be involved,” Martsolf said. “And if you don’t like bowling, well then the car cruise happens, or if you don’t like that, there’s always something happening.”

For Baglier, volunteerism and helping the community is a personal experience.

“I get personal satisfaction from successfully being able to help others,” he said.
