Snow

Nicholas S. Snow, 68, of Butler died unexpectedly of natural causes at 2:39 a.m. Saturday in Butler Memorial Hospital following surgery.

He was born in Butler, Sept. 27, 1941, the son of the late Kenneth L. Snow and the late Grace E. Slater Snow.

He attended St. Paul Catholic School in Butler, and he was a graduate of Butler High School and Indiana (Pa.) University.

He accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior in 1975.

At the present time, he was the organist for the First United Methodist Church, Kittanning, where he has been organist since July 1964. He also was an organist, consultant and teacher with Young's Music Center, West Sunbury, since 1963.

He played weekly broadcasts of organ music on WISR Radio from 1960 until 1970; was chosen as organist of the The Holy Spirit, Dallas, Texas, in 1978; was a contract organist for the Conn Organ Corp. from 1970 to 1972, covering a territory of the entire eastern half of the United States; was a featured organist in many classical, church and theater organ concerts throughout the United States; and was responsible for the tonal regulation and finishing of many pipe and electronic organs.

He taught organ, piano and keyboard lessons at Mays Music Store in Butler and also taught in Pittsburgh, Kittanning and Clearfield for more than 50 years.

He studied organ with Sister M. Jane Frances, R.S.M.; Mrs. Earl Grohman; Dr. Lamonte Crape; Dr. Garth Edmundson, and Catherine C. Carl, AAGO; and was coached in organ by Richard Purvis in classical music and Don Baker in theater organ.

Surviving are two sisters, Mary Ellen Vandersyde and her husband, George, of Butler and Patricia Anne Miro and her husband, Nemesio, of Texas; a brother, Thomas Robert Snow and his wife, Debbe, of Butler; two nephews, Justin A. Miro of Texas and Kenneth Vandersyde of Butler; a niece, Mary Catherine Vandersyde of Butler; and two grandnephews, Justin D. Miro of Texas and Nicholas Santos Miro of Texas.
