Making the World a Better Place

Angela Musillo, an executive assistant with Brayman Construction in Clinton Township, demonstrates leadership by listening, helping and setting an example for others to follow.
Brayman executive assistant relishes leadership role

CLINTON TWP — Angela Musillo's philosophy on life is to leave the world a better place than she found it.

Whether through community work or in her job at Brayman Construction as the executive assistant to Stephen Muck, president and chief executive officer, Musillo applies that philosophy by taking on a leadership role.

“My role here is general support for any activity,” she said. “No day is ever the same.”

Brayman is a prime contractor and a subcontractor, depending on the project.

Along with bridge construction and structure demolitions, Brayman does steel repair and marine construction, such as shoring systems and piers.

The company is the general contractor for the nearly $63 million project to renovate the Freeport Bridge and replace the Laneville Bridge, which crosses over Buffalo Creek.

“Most of our projects are long-term,” Musillo said.

She demonstrates leadership at her job in several ways.

“I listen more and talk less,” she said. “I help others. I try to set the best example possible for those around me. I support initiatives that inspire and promote future growth and advancement.”

Since working at Brayman for the past four years, Musillo has learned about what it takes to operate a privately-owned company.

“Entrepreneurship requires intelligence, the ability to compare and weigh risks, strategic vision and much more.”

She also has grown as a person while working at Brayman.

“I have been exposed to many events and activities that I may not have seen or participated in otherwise — corporate, industry-related and philanthropic,” Musillo said.

“I have also been provided with an education about the construction industry and how the projects that our company builds directly impact the greater good through improved transportation in our local, regional and national communities.”

She also takes the reins in community service efforts.

Musillo was the program and event coordinator of the Southern Butler Center for the Performing Arts May 2012 show: A Night for Youth Arts and Science! The benefit fundraiser featured the Grammy-award winning vocal group Chanticleer. That group's mission was to bring to the attention of the business community what the unmet needs were in the arts and sciences programs in schools. The funds were used to support enhanced educational programs in middle and high schools by providing four scholarships to Knoch High School students in the areas of vocal, instrumental, performing arts and science as well as paying for the high school's wish list of science supplies.Musillo intends to do similar volunteer work in the future.“I look forward to getting involved with another organization,” she said.Musillo also cited the benefits of the Leadership Butler County program, in which she was a 2009 participant.“Having a leadership training program like LBC, which exposes you to a vast array of opportunities in our local area, taught me that there are many ways to get involved,” she said. “It is our duty as citizens and members of the community to try to make a positive impact on those around us.”Before working at Brayman, Musillo was the director of leadership and marketing at the Butler Country Club. She is a 1999 graduate of Butler High School and has a master's degree in information systems management from Robert Morris University.Along with spending time with her husband and other family members, she likes bicycling and cooking Italian food.“I make a pretty mean sauce,” Musillo said.

Now that’s a legacy.”
