The pumpkin spice lattes, hummus, cookies, you name it, are stocked in every corner coffee shop or grocery aisle you pass. That must mean it’s fall, right?

I’m sad to see summer go, but Sept. 22 is officially the start of the season, so I must concede.

In my unpopular opinion, fall is a battle of the flavors. In the fight between pumpkin vs. apple treats, which would win out?

This would be a fun question to ask your neighbors when you see them at the many fall-themed events this weekend. Look below for opportunities to eat, dance, walk or be entertained.

Slippery Rock University’s dance department is presenting two 60x60x60 dance concert performances at 7 and 9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 22, in the Stoner West Dance Studio Theater on campus.

The Slippery Rock VillageFest lasts from Friday, Sept. 23, to Sunday, Sept. 25, on the borough’s Main Street. Check out countless vendors, children’s activities, craftsmen and artisans, and food, and experience the camaraderie for yourself.

Butler Two-Steppers will have their monthly dance at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23, at Tanglewood Center, 10 Austin Avenue, Lyndora.

Attend a benefit for the Butler JROTC during its first Food Truck March bright and early Saturday, Sept. 24, at the Butler Intermediate High School, 551 Fairground Hill Road. The day of events will include a Walk-A-Thon at 7 a.m., raffle baskets, a Steelers ticket raffle, local food trucks and craft vendors. You can sign up the day of the event for a $30 fee.

The Pioneer Pursuit 5K & More Saturday, Sept. 24, supports BC3 students and nursing education. Local vendors and food will be present and accounted for at 107 College Drive. Register for a 5K Race, 1-Mile Walk, 30-Minute Yoga Class, or Kids’ 100-Meter Dash (ages 14 and under) at https://news.bc3.edu/event/pioneer-pursuit-fall-2022/.

At 8 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, lend a helping hand for Fall Clean Up Day. Coffee and donuts are provided to volunteers at 136 S. Main St., Butler.

The Cranberry Sunset Disc Golf Doubles Tournament benefits nonprofit organization Sleep in Heavenly Peace starting at 8 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, at North Boundary Championship Disc Golf Course, 1171 North Boundary Park Road. You can register until Friday, Sept. 23, at www.discgolfscene.com/tournaments/Cranberry_Sunset_Rotary_Disc_Golf_Tournament_2022.

The first Evans City PumpkinFest will celebrate the spookiest orange fruit around with food, drinks, games, activities and music from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 25.

The revamped Rotary Dog Park will open in Cranberry Township Community Park, 111 Ernie Mashuda Drive, at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, with a ribbon-cutting “unleashing” event.

Penn’s Colony Festival is a historic experience you’ll never forget. It continues this weekend. The festival starts at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, and lasts through Sunday, Sept. 25, at 365 Saxonburg Blvd. in Clinton Township. See French and Indian War-era history before your eyes and purchase wares from fine craftsmen.

Admission is free to Brenckle’s Fall Fest from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, and Sunday, Sept. 25, at 543 Evans City Road. Try farm fresh food, paint pumpkins and meet local crafters.

Alameda Park’s Fall Family Fun Day is back for round two Sunday, Sept. 25, at Alameda Park Road in Butler Township. The annual car cruise will accept cars starting at 8 a.m. that morning. Children’s activities will include bounce houses and crafts, and local artisans will line the roads of the park during the event.
