Wolak shines at invite

Slippery Rock senior Jacob Wolak was the only golfer in a field of 123 to shoot under par, carding a three-under 69 to win the Marquette Invitational at The Country Club in Meadville on Tuesday.

Wolak’s round included two eagles, a birdie and a pair of bogeys.

His nearest competition was Warren’s Braddock Damore, who finished at even-par.

Freeport 210, Deer Lakes 211 — Jayden Diehl fired a 36 at Pheasant Ridge to lift the Yellowjackets to a 13-0 section record (15-1 overall).

Butler 195, Pine-Richland 202 — The Golden Tornado improved to 7-4 in section matches and 10-4 overall with this win at Treesdale.

Hunter Swidzinski fired a 35 to pace Butler, Xander Downing had a 37 and Wyatt Kos 38.

Pine-Richland’s top efforts came from Blaise Marcianno (38), Roger Williams (38) and Matt Willner (42).

Knoch 215, Burrell 238 — No other details were available from this victory for the Knights.

Cross Country

Both Slippery Rock teams posted dominant 15-50 victories over Greenville.

Finishing first for the Rocket boys was Viktor Zahn with a time of 18 minutes, 36 seconds.

Tessa Szymanski’s runner-up finish (23:53) paced Slippery Rock’s girls.

Both Rocket teams improved to 1-1.

Girls Golf

Freeport’s Lillie Snow carded an 88, including an eagle on No. 18, to advance to next Monday’s WPIAL Class 2A semifinal round at Youghiogheny Country Club.

She finished tied for sixth out of 23 golfers.

KSAC Mega Match — Moniteau completed a perfect 10-0 season with a win at Foxburg Country Club.

Emma Covert and Kendall Sankey shared medalist honors for the Warriors, both shooting 46.

Mariska Shunk added a 50 for Moniteau. Evie Bliss carded a 49 for A-C Valley/Union.

Boys Soccer

Hunter Berry scored four times and had one assist as Slippery Rock blanked Conneaut Area, 8-0.

Gavin Siegfried tallied two goals and one assist, Nick Kingerski one goal and one assist and Collin Wimer one goal.

Cole Kovacik contributed three assists and Joey Szczerbiak one helper for the Rockets (5-3, 1-0).

Connor Wallace and Josh Book combined for the shutout in net.

Deer Lakes 3, Freeport 2 — Dante Treglia and Isaac Wetzel both scored for the Yellowjackets (4-4, 4-3), with Wetzel adding an assist.

Senior goalie Ethan Rapp made seven saves in defeat as Freeport saw its four-game winning streak come to an end.

Knoch 9, Derry 1 — Caleb Oskin’s hat trick highlighted this rout of the Trojans.

Orrin Milcic had a goal and two assists. Austin Friedline and Evan Haas both tallied one goal and one assist.

Jayson Haas, Mason Nebel, Sam Caldwell and Tye West each found the net while Will Parisi (2), Jay Allen and Aedan Smith dished out helpers for the Knights (5-3, 5-2).

Girls Tennis

Jillian Clark, Aly Smith and Mikayla Turner each won in singles play as Butler swept Shaler, 5-0, improving the Golden Tornado to 4-1.

Girls Volleyball

Sierra Mock had 14 kills and Nina Szymanski 13 service points to lead Knoch to a 3-1 win against Ambridge.

Knoch (3-3, 2-1) won the match by scores of 25-15, 25-18 and 26-24.

Punxsutawney 3, Moniteau 0 — Hannah Migliorisi had four kills and Allie Pry seven digs in the Warriors’ 25-7, 25-11 and 25-11 defeat.

North Hills 3, Butler 2 — The Golden Tornado (4-3) won the first two sets before the Indians rallied for the win.

Ava Plunkard had 25 digs, 15 assists and three kills for Butler. Audrey Lehman added 13 digs, nine blocks and six kills.

The Golden Tornado lost by scores of 25-17, 25-23, 13-25, 15-25 and 8-15.

A-C Valley 3, Karns City 1 — Lexi Ruckdeschel tallied 15 kills and 10 digs for the Falcons (4-2), who win this match 25-20, 25-18, 22-25, 25-16.

Mackenzie Parks contributed eight kills and 11 digs, Jenna Stefanacci 22 assists and Bella Ielase eight digs for A-C Valley, which hosts Punxsutawney Thursday night.
