BUTLER TWP — Logan Maxwell belted three home runs to help power the Butler Township 11-12-year-old baseball team to a 12-0 victory over visiting A-C Valley Saturday.

Adam Schaffner tossed a no-hitter as he fanned 10 batters and walked four in four innings.

Ryan Denny added a home run to kickstart a seven-run third inning, with hits coming from Schaffner, Chris Gamble, Jake Lenhart and T.J. Rice.

Butler (1-0) will visit East Butler, which received a bye, in the winner's bracket semifinals at 6 p.m. today.

At Saturday's Pennsylvania American Legion Region 8 finals, three Butler County players advanced to the All-West Game, which will be played July 15 at Slippery Rock University's Critchfield Park.Ryan Geibel, a catcher from the East Butler team advanced, as did Butler City outfielder Ken Rosenbauer and Prospect outfielder Travis McDougall.There were 58 players in attendance Saturday, with 20 advancing to the All-West Game. There were several scouts on hand, including three from Major League Baseball organizations.

BUFFALO TWP — Due to the rain-filled weekend, Day 2 of the second annual Firecracker 400 was postponed Saturday, then again on Sunday.A new date for the finale of the Firecracker 100, the $150,000 World of Outlaws Late Model Series event, will be announced soon by track and series officials.Rainchecks and pit bands will be honored on the rescheduled date.

The Butler 15-U fastpitch softball team outscored its opponents 33-7 to win all six games en route to winning the 11-team Plum Tournament this past weekend.The squad, sponsored by KellyChevrolet and Weisenstein Trucking, consists of Mackenzie O'Donnell, Angie Reddick, Caitlin Baxter, Amber Steinheiser, Sammy Marak, Amanda Steinheiser, Tori Hesidence, Becca Schnur, Erin Pennington, Olivia Weist and Morgan McLaughlin.

PITTSBURGH — Right-hander Romulo Sanchez was recalled by the Pittsburgh Pirates from Triple-A Indianapolis on Sunday, a day after the team played a 13-inning game against Tampa Bay.Sanchez was 4-0 with four saves and a 2.85 ERA in 25 games at Indianapolis. Last season, he was 1-0 with a 5.00 ERA in 16 games with Pittsburgh.With pitchers Ian Snell, Phil Dumatrait and Franquelis Osoria on the disabled list, the Pirates have called up or acquired six pitchers in a week's time. They called up Sanchez and reliever T.J. Beam, plus starters John Van Benschoten, Ty Taubenheim and Jimmy Barthmaier and traded for former Tigers reliever Denny Bautista.
