MOON TWP — Jenna Rinker, a Slippery Rock High graduate and Robert Morris University freshman, was named the Northeast Conference Women's Golfer of the Week.
Rinker took medalist honors at the Mount St. Mary's Spring Invitational, shooting rounds of 80 and 79 before defeating teammate Elizabeth Wenger in a playoff.
She also placed second at a match held at St. Francis (Pa.) University last weekend.
Rinker became the first RMU women's golfer to earn weekly honors in four years.
NEW YORK — Tiger Woods, coming off a fourth-place tie at the Masters, will play the Quail Hollow Championship in Charlotte, N.C., in two weeks.The tournament runs from April 29 to May 2.Woods marked his return to golf last week at the Masters after a five-month hiatus because of a sex scandal.He has played Quail Hollow — formally known as the Wachovia Championship — four times since it was introduced in 2003. He won in 2007 and was fourth last year, finishing two shots behind champion Sean O'Hair.
INDIANAPOLIS — Wedge blocks and eye black with messages will be banned in college football next season. And taunting penalties could cost teams points in 2011.All were approved by the NCAA Thursday.The organization's rules panel followed the NFL's lead by barring wedge blocks on kickoffs for safety reasons. Infractions will result in a 15-yard penalty from the spot of the foul or from the spot the kick returner was tackled if he is behind where the foul took place.Beginning in 2011, the committee approved another proposal that will disallow touchdowns for taunting if the foul occurs before the player scores.
