Two Verizon stores in Butler County are participating in a backpack giveaway Sunday, July 26.

The Verizon locations at 170 Bon Aire Shopping Center in Butler Township and 2030 Mackenzie Way Suite 600 in Cranberry Township are two of about 30 stores in Western Pennsylvania giving away one backpack per child while supplies last starting at 1 p.m.

“Back-to-school costs continue to put pressure on many families and something as simple as a backpack can make a meaningful impact,” said Scott Moorehead, CEO of Round Room, a Verizon-authorized retailer.

Round Room said 47 students nationwide will also be randomly selected to receive a golden ruler key-chain attached to their backpack, which comes with a $250 Visa gift card.

Families are expected to spend an average of $922 on back-to-school supplies this year, and 47% of parents expect to spend more this year than in 2025, according to a study from PwC, an audit and consulting service.

“Backpacks are essential for students, and we’re grateful we can give families one less thing to worry about,” Moorehead said.

Round Room expects to give away more than 140,000 backpacks worth more than $3 million. This will be the 14th year of the initiative.
