Eagle fly high in win 24-12 victory

The Grove City HighSchool football team flexed its muscles Friday night.

TheEagles rolled up 327 yards rushing against region rival Hickory on the way to a 24-12 win in a pivotal contest.

Both teams came into the matchup 2-2 overall and 1-1 in the region.

Grove City (3-2, 2-1) took control early on touchdown runs by Dwayne Martin and Chris Clark and an 8-yard pass from Mike Burk to receiver Justin Burk to give the Eagles a 21-6 lead at halftime.

Gordon Craig added a 31-yard field goal in the third quarter for the Eagles.

Clark finished with 207 yards on 27 carries and Martin added 116 yards in 12 rushing attempts for Grove City.

Laurel 40, Summit Academy 8 — The Knights fell behind 27-0 in the first half and trailed 40-0 in the fourth quarter before Bryan Robinson galloped 63 yards for a late Summit score.Jamal Ballinger led Summit (3-2, 3-1) with 72 yards on 12 carries.

Clarion 55, Union 6 — Colby Davis rushed for 57 yards on 15 carries for Union, but the Knights trailed 41-0 at the half on the way to the defeat.Clarion (3-2, 2-2) scored on eight of its 11 possessions in the contest.Union (1-4, 0-4) was outgained 366-94.Girls Tennis

Butler 4, Mars 1 — The Golden Tornado (8-3) swept all three singles matches en route to the Friday win.
