Companies support city's fireworks show

Jake Gentile, left, operations supervisor of Pennsylvania American Water, presents a check for $4,500 to Butler Mayor Tom Donaldson for the city's Fourth of July fireworks show.

Butler residents can enjoy Fourth of July fireworks thanks to donations to the city by two companies.

Pennsylvania American Water on Friday gave Butler Mayor Tom Donaldson a $4,500 check for the fireworks that will take place after the Butler BlueSox baseball game on July 4 at Kelly Automotive Park.

“Through the generosity of the businesses that serve the community, (Pennsylvania) American Water being one of the first that has always stepped up to donate, we hopefully continue the fireworks in the city of Butler,” Donaldson said.

Also on Friday, Peoples TWP told Donaldson that it will donate $5,000 for the fireworks.

Last year Pennsylvania American gave $4,500 while Peoples TWP gave $11,000 for a $15,5000 show done by Zambelli Fireworks of New Castle.

“I think we’ll be able to get $15,000,” Donaldson said. “If we get more than that, we’ll bump the show up (in quality).”

Gary Lobaugh, Pennsylvania American external affairs manager, said, “This is an important opportunity for Pennsylvania American Water to partner with the city of Butler.

“We’ve been in business here for over 100 years, and being able to provide fireworks is a positive for the quality of life here in Butler, just as providing clean, dependable water is also important to quality of life, so we see the correlation between the two.”
