Michael P. Morgus

Michael P. Morgus, 74, of Butler passed away Saturday at Butler Memorial Hospital surrounded by all of his family.

He was born May 18, 1941, in Butler, the son of the late Michael and Catherine Rattigan Morgus.

“Mick,” as he was affectionately called, worked for 20 years at Mellon Bank and then at the First Seneca/National City Bank for another 20 years in the automobile lending departments. Through his role at the banks he had close relationships with employees at many of the auto dealerships in the surrounding area.

He was a member of Saint Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church.

Mick was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and he was a member of American Legion Post 778.

In his free time, he enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, car rides in the country and helping his family and friends. His two Lhasa Apsos, Molly and Lizzie, were his loyal companions. Most of all, he loved being with his family, particularly his grandchildren.

Mick is survived by his wife of 49 years, Carol Hovis Morgus, whom he married Aug. 6, 1966. He is also survived by one daughter, Deanna Swartout and her husband, Tom, of Wexford, along with their four children, Alec, Tyler, Emma and Andrew; his son, Michael P. Morgus Jr. and his wife, Susan, of Butler, along with their three children, Nathaniel, William and Catherine; and his son, Timothy J. Morgus and his wife, Sari, and their two sons, Jackson and Wyatt. He is also survived by his sister, Kathy Morgus Coyle of Butler.

MORGUS — Friends of Michael P. Morgus, who died Saturday, Oct. 24, 2015, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Martin Funeral Home, 429 Center Ave., Butler.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at Saint Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church, 432 Center Ave., Butler. Burial will follow at Saint Michael's Cemetery.Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by American Legion Post 778 and VFW Post 249.The family requests memorial donations be made to the Saint Vincent DePaul Society, 146 N. Monroe St., Butler.The Bereavement Group of Saint Michael the Archangel parish will meet at the funeral home at 3 p.m. Wednesday to conduct a scriptural wake service.For more information, please visit www.martinfh.net.
