Charles Gross
Charles “Chuck” Gross, 78, of Zelienople went to be with the Lord on Wednesday with his family at his side.
Born Aug. 1, 1932, in Zelienople, he was the son of Walter and Margaret (Eichholtz) Gross.
He was an active member of the St. Peter's Reformed Church of Zelienople, having served on the church consistory and as an elder, deacon, vice president, secretary and treasurer, as well as a Sunday school superintendent and teacher.
Chuck graduated cum laude as an accounting major from Grove City College in 1954; and that same year, he married Florence Eppinger. He completed his master's in business administration as an industry major from the University of Pittsburgh in 1963.
Most of his accounting career was with the Babcock & Wilcox Co., serving in various positions, including plant controller and assistant division controller and retiring as division manager of accounting and financial reporting.
He was a member of the Subcommittee on Accounting for the American Iron and Steel Institute, a member of the Internal Auditors Institute and chapter president and national director of the Institute of Management Accountants, serving on the National Membership Acquisition Committee.
He also served in the U.S. Air Force as a budget and accounting officer.Active in community service, Chuck was president of the Zelienople Community Park Association, president of the Zelienople Public Library Association, a member of budget committee for the Upper Beaver Valley United Fund, a Junior Achievement adviser, borough auditor for both Zelienople and Harmony, an American Legion member and auditor, class agent for alumni giving for Grove City College, a Little League baseball manager and a Midget football assistant coach. Also he was a member of the Harmony Lodge 429 F&AM, the Scottish Rite Valley of New Castle and a life member of the Pittsburgh Syria Shrine.He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Florence Gross; four children, Alan Gross (Diana) of Burke, Va., Diane Grinder (Nath) of Zelienople, Wayne Gross (Sheila) of North Canton, Ohio, and Bob Gross (Jennifer) of Morrisville; five grandchildren; and a brother, Ralph E. Gross (Ruth) of Zelienople.
