Francis A. Maitland, 64, of Butler died Sunday evening at Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born April 24, 1945, in Butler, he was the son of the late Robert J. and Katherine Erdos Maitland.

Mr. Maitland was disabled, having previously worked for the B & O Railroad system, now CSX.

A member of St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church in Lyndora, he was a proud veteran of the Navy, having served during the Vietnam War.

He always enjoyed drag racing, and was the original owner of a 1979 Camaro Z-28 that he won many races with. He also enjoyed snowmobiling, and was very interested in his children's horses and riding. His dogs "Dakota," a chocolate Lab, and his Rottweiler, "Sky," were his faithful companions.

Surviving are his wife, Georgiann Kovalchick Maitland, who he married Aug. 2, 1979; a son, Todd Maitland; three daughters, Misty Maitland-Stahl and her husband, Shawn, of Lyndora, Sherry Billett and her husband, Jeff, and a son Kyle Yoho of Punxsutawney, and Francine Maitland and her fiance, Chris Abbott, of Butler.

His first wife, Roxann Ellenberger Maitland, preceded him in death on Dec. 13, 1978.

Maitland, who died Sunday, Dec. 13, 2009, at his request.A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church, 105 Kohler Ave., Lyndora. Abbot Leo Schlosser, pastor, will officiate.
