Dorothy H. Holben, 91, of Chicora, died unexpectedly of natural causes Saturday in Chicora Medical Center, where she had been a resident for one and a half years.

She was born in DuBois on Aug. 29, 1918, the daughter of the late John A. Price and the late Christina Frederick Price.

She received a bachelor's degree in teaching from Slippery Rock College in 1954 and started teaching in Bradys Bend, a one-room schoolhouse, on her 20th birthday. She then worked for Butler School District, retiring in 1981.

She was a member of Mater Dolorosa Roman Catholic church, where she was the oldest living member. She was a lector of the church and a member of the Christian Mothers of the church. She taught catechism at the church.

She was a member of the local, state and national Teachers Association. She was a member of Tanglewood and the Chicora Senior Center.

She is survived by a daughter, Mary Ann Anderson and her husband, Glenn, of Chicora; two granddaughters, Lisa Curry and her husband, Glenn, of Hopewell Township and Melinda Wood and her husband, George, Dellen Jr. of Karns City; two grandsons, Philip Anderson and his wife, Rachael, of East Brady and Gregg Anderson and his wife, Jen, of York Springs, Pa.; four great-grandsons, Griffin and Sean Curry and Luke and Levi Anderson; a sister, Mary Louise Morrow of Silver Springs, Md.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur A. Holben, who she married Oct. 19, 1940, and who died Dec. 2, 1971. She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Judith A. Wood; four brothers and two sisters.

<B>Holben</B> — Friends of Dorothy H. Holben, who died Saturday, Oct. 24, 2009, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at <B>STEIGHNER FUNERAL HOME</B>, 111 E. Slippery Rock and Main streets in Chicora.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Mater Dolorosa Roman Catholic Church, 409 N. Main St., Chicora, with the Rev.
