Butler Police1:49 p.m. Oct. 29 — A car driven by John. J. Boice, 85, of Renfrew struck a woman as she was crossing West Jefferson Street at its intersection with South Chestnut Street.Police said Boice was turning onto West Jefferson when his car struck Karen Emert, 53, of Butler, who was walking in the crosswalk.Boice told police he had a green light and checked to make sure no cars were coming, but did not see Emert. Witnesses told police the crosswalk signal indicated it was safe to cross.Emert was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with unknown injuries.No charges were filed.

11:01 a.m. Thursday — A two-car accident occurred at the intersection of Route 8 and Filbert Road.A car driven by Arthur Fischer Jr., 66, of Sandy Lake collided with a van driven by Don Roberts, 89, of Butler as Fischer attempted to turn onto Filbert Road.Ellen Roberts, 87, of Butler, a passenger in Roberts' van, suffered unknown injuries and was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital. She was later taken to a hospital in Pittsburgh.Both vehicles were towed from the scene. No charges were listed on the police report.
