Eagle seeks stories on holiday traditions

The Butler Eagle is seeking stories on holiday traditions. The traditions can be ethnic practices passed from earlier generations or new traditions recently started.

PENN TWP — Musician Aaron Dray, formerly of Butler County, will perform at Higher Grounds Coffeehouse at South Butler Assembly of God, 160 Brownsdale Road.The coffee house is open from 7 to 11 p.m. to students in junior and senior high school. The event will also feature a visit from the Rev. Brian Bolt of Pittsburgh City Outreach.

FREEPORT — Freeport Library, 428 Market St., will host a New to You sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.In addition to the rummage sale, baked goods, library cookbooks and health care uniforms will be available for purchase.Proceeds benefit the library.

LYNDORA — St. Andrew Orthodox Church, 201 Penn Ave., Lyndora, will host a Christmas jewelry sale Sunday.The sale will be open from noon to 4 p.m. There will be no formal presentation of jewelry. Proceeds from the sale will benefit the church.

HARMONY — Harmony Museum will hold a two-mile walk Saturday to commemorate George Washington's 1753 mission to Western Pennsylvania.The walk begins at 1 p.m. in Harmony's diamond.The program marks the 254th anniversary of Washington's overnight stay at Murdering Town, a Lenni Lenapi (Delaware) village across the Connoquenessing Creek from where Harmony would be established 51 years later.The stay was just prior to the start of the French and Indian War.Walkers will be offered refreshments at the historic 1825 meetinghouse before returning to Harmony.

OAKLAND TWP — North Butler Presbyterian Church is accepting orders for its Christmas cookie sale.Assorted cookies are sold by the dozen. Orders can be picked up from 1 to 5 p.m. at the church, North Butler Church Road, or with the Rev. Mary Sickels at 404 Franklin Street in Butler.To order, call Donna Moser at 724-282-1992.

Notices, in writing, of festivals, fundraising events, newly elected officers and other news from clubs and nonprofit groups should be sent to the Focus department one week in advance of the event.
