Merle Richard Heeter, 75, of Butler passed away Saturday at Good Samaritan Hospice Unit.

He was born Dec. 18, 1936, in Armstrong County, the son of the late Henry Clay Heeter and Gladys “Kate” (Crissman) Heeter Wetzel.

Merle was a member of the St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church and the American Legion 117. He had delivered Meals on Wheels for years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps.

Surviving are his wife of 52 years, June P. (Bachman) Heeter; daughter, Debbie (Art) Vogel of Butler; son, Tim (Chris) Heeter of East Brady; four grandchildren, Brittany Vogel of Butler and Shawn, Emily and Eric Heeter, all of East Brady; a sister, Heneriatta (John) Peters of Rimersburg; and a stepsister, Shirley Hollobaugh of Sharon.

He was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Lloyd Wetzel; a granddaughter, Ashley Marie Heeter; a brother, Darrell Heeter; and a stepbrother, Lloyd Wetzel.

HEETER — Friends of Merle Richard Heeter, who died Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012, will be received at the Young Funeral Home, 127 W. Jefferson St., Butler, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Services will be at St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 201 W. Jefferson St., Butler, at 1 p.m. Wednesday with his pastor, the Rev. Alden Towberman, officiating. Military honors by VFW 249 and American Legion 778 will be at the church following the service. Interment will be in the Gruenwald Cemetery, Butler.In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Meals on Wheels, 218 E.
