"Pretty in Pink" by Betsy Hughes exemplifies the new exhibit at The Art Center, 344 S. Main St. "Hot Pink, Art, Education, Awareness & Action" continues through Nov. 28 in the Members' Gallery.

"My Cloth Souls," part of he exhibit "Hot Pink, Art, Education, Awareness & Action," continues through Oct. 31 at the center.

Hughes is a self-taught fabric/doll artist who learned such skills from her mother.

She has experimented with various fabric art forms through the years including clothing and bridal design, wall art, quilting, wool felt art, and her true passion: dolls.

Newest to her "My Cloth Souls" collection are fabric garden sculptures, "Cobblestone Village." These figures are created from wire and foil armatures that have been wrapped and sculpted with fabric then coated with a medium that hardens and weatherproofs fibers and fabric.

Hughes has had her worked included in the Art Center's "Threads" exhibit in 2007.

She dedicates her role in this year's "Hot Pink" exhibit to her sister Brenda, a breast cancer survivor.

Her pieces are being sold at The Blue Heron Gallery in Volant and on the Web site, www.myclothsouls.com.

Also continuing at the Art Center is "The Art of Horror," which will have a costume party and artists' reception from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the center.
