Butler tennis downs North Hills

Behind singles wins by Ali Smith and Mikayla Turner, the Butler girls tennis team defeated North Hills, 3-2, on the road Thursday.

Smith defeated the Indians’ Anna Tikhomirova — 6-1, 6-1 — and Turner put away Gabrielle Thinnes by scores of 6-2, 6-3.

Cameron Hanratty and Olivia Culp won in doubles action for the Golden Tornado (2-0), who will next play at Pine-Richland on Tuesday.

Boys Golf

Moniteau’s Jacob Felsing and Dawson Wallace placed second and fifth, individually, at a KSAC Mega Match at Hunter’s Station Golf Course. Felsing shot a 36, bested only by Clarion’s Kam Kerle, who was one stroke better.

Wallace carded a 38 for the Warriors, who finished second as a team in the event. Karns City’s Chloe Fritch shot a 39.

Elsewhere, Slippery Rock’s Jacob Wolak topped a 115-person field at the 16th annual Corry North Hills Invitational. He shot a 75 for the Rockets — the 16th-place finisher.

Butler 206, Hampton 215 — The Golden Tornado improved its record to 6-3 overall and 3-3 in its section with this win over the Talbots at Wildwood Country Club.

Hunter Swidzinski shot a team-best 39 in the nine-hole match, while Wyatt Kos and Xander Downing both carded 41.

Freeport 216, St. Joe’s 315 — Hannah Shepherd shot a 41, while Nate Covey and Lillie Snow carded 43 for the Yellowjackets (7-0, 8-0).

Boys Soccer

Nick Kingerski netted a hat trick as Slippery Rock enjoyed a commanding 8-0 victory at home against Titusville. Austin Hess, Hunter Berry, Braden Callen, David Hu, and Gavin Seigfried also scored for the Rockets.

Knoch 3, Freeport 1 — Isaac Wetzel scored the lone goal for the host Yellowjackets, while Ethan Rapp made 17 saves.

Girls Volleyball

Moniteau claimed the first set against North Clarion, but dropped the next three in a match loss. The scores were 25-18, 18-25, 16-25, and 17-25.

Marissa Pry had three aces, seven kills, and three blocks for the Warriors. Abbey Jewart added five aces, two kills, and 10 assists.

Deer Lakes 3, Knoch 0 — Sabrina Schlott turned in five kills and Maddie Gardner had seven service points for the Knights (0-2) in a section defeat.

Franklin 3, Karns City 0 — Rosalie Carden had a pair of aces, three kills, and seven digs as the Gremlins were swept by scores of 18-25, 15-25, and 16-25.
