KARNS CITY — Karns City needed less than two minutes to put points on the board against Keystone Shortway Athletic Conference foe A-C Valley Friday night.

And the Gremlins were just getting started.

Karns City (8-0) scored nine touchdowns en route to a 63-6 win, its most lopsided victory in three seasons.

"It was a fun game for the kids," Karns City coach Ed Conto said.

Seven different Karns City players scored, with Matt McConnell having a career night. McConnell scored three touchdowns and kicked nine extra points.

Before the game, Conto instituted two offenses and two defenses and none of them missed a beat.

In the first half, Karns City ran only 18 plays but scored 56 points, while A-C Valley ran 39 plays and had nine yards of offense.

Karns City's defense started the rout when Earl Everetts picked up a fumble and returned it 37 yards for a touchdown. In all, Karns City scored three defensive touchdowns.

Cameron Turner and Josh Callender each returned interceptions for scores.

The Gremlins' defense recorded four sacks and surrendered 66 total yards of offense.

"We mixed units up and didn't have a lot of defensive breakdowns," Conto said.

Brett Green scored on a 57-yard run midway through the first quarter and McConnell caught an 89-yard pass from Turner with five minutes left in the game for the longest play of the night.

A-C Valley dressed only 20 players and each played hard on every down.

"We play ball," Falcons coach Gary Pinkerton said. "We know we have a lot of things to build on, but we have to control the mental mistakes, and we made them."

Karns City's biggest problem on offense was holding onto the ball. The Gremlins fumbled the ball seven times, but lost only two.

"I think they may have been trying a little too hard to score," Conto said.

Karns City will wrap up conference play next week at Union.
