Warriors' focus squarely on Brookville

It would be so easy for the Moniteau football team to look past Brookville this week.

After all, next Friday the Warriors will take on their biggest rival, Karns City, in a game that could pit two undefeated Keystone Shortway Athletic Conference foes against one another.

After all, the Warriors have had little trouble disposing of their foes the last five weeks, winning by an average score of 226-255.

After all, Brookville is 2-3 and has struggled at times — a mere speed bump on the way to Karns City.

So, is Moniteau coach Jeff Campbell worried about his team overlooking the Raiders?

"Absolutely," Campbell said. "Brookville is a dangerous team. They have the quick-strike ability passing the ball or running it.

"But the best thing about this team is that they have bought into the whole one play, one game, one team at a time. We feel like we haven't played our best game yet."

The Warriors came pretty close last week, rolling up 554 yards of offense in a 55-7 beatdown of Keystone last week.

Tyler Armagost was 11-of-20 for 212 yards and three touchdowns and the running game, led by 163 yards from James Shope, rolled up 342 yards.

The Warriors have had to be sharp this season because teams are throwing everything at them.

Keystone came out in completely different looks than what Campbell expected and Moniteau adapted.

The Warriors will not sneak up on anyone this season, Campbell said.

"We're not any kind of sleeper, that's for sure," Campbell said. "We're bringing out the best in teams. It's no surprise, honestly. I'm sure Brookville will bring their best against us."

While this is the Raiders' first season back in the KSAC since 1992, the teams are no strangers.

Moniteau played Brookville last year in the playoffs and two times during the 2005 season.

This isn't exactly the same Raiders' team the Warriors played in those three games — two of them playoff contests.

Brookville is only averaging 3.1 yards per carry this season, but have a couple of dangerous backs in Kyle Galbraith and Ethan Harmon,

Galbraith has rushed for 333 yards and Harmon 235 yards while averaging 4.8 yards per attempt.

The Raiders are breaking in a new quarterback in Tyler Dombrowski, who has thrown five touchdowns in limited action this season.

Karns City downed previously unbeaten Redbank Valley 23-14 to remain unbeaten themselves. Anthony Stimac totaled 290 yards passing and rushing and as a team, the Gremlins rushed for 357 yards. ... Karns City trailed 14-10 early in the third quarter before adding touchdown runs by Stimac and Markus LaVan in just over a four-minute span.

Powell rushed for 144 yards and two touchdowns before leaving the game against Titusville early in the second half. ... Powell's replacement, Ayron Gallagher, completed two 12-yard passes that set up touchdowns in the 34-20 win. ... Since moving to fullback two weeks ago, Rockets' junior Justin Angerett has rushed for 129 yards and two scores. He also had an interception and fumble recovery on defense last week. ... Jon Roncoloto is dangerous return man for the Bulldogs. He returned two kickoffs for touchdowns against the Rockets two years ago and has two kick returns for TDs already this season.

West Shamokin totaled just 108 yards against the Knights, the lone score coming on quarterback Dave Ferringer's scoring run. ... West Shamokin has been outscored 238-46 this year. Freeport lost to Valley 14-3 on Friday, despite limiting the Vikings to 184 total yards. Andrew Vidra's 36-yard field goal in the first quarter was all the offense the Yellowjackets could muster. Andy Teorsky rushed for 80 yards on 24 carries. ... Freeport is averaging 14 points a game this year, but have limited opponents to a 14.7 average.

Corry has thrown the ball 163 times out of its spread attack. Grove City has put the ball up a mere 50 times in its wing-T attack. ... Corry QB Scottie Frisini has passed for 1,092 yards and 15 touchdowns and rushed for a team-leading 350 yards and seven scores. ... Both Grove City running backs Dwayne Martin and Casey Shay eclipsed 100 yards rushing last week in a 20-6 win over Hickory. ... The Eagles' defense has allowed an average of only 152 yards of offense in the last three weeks.

Luke Walker scored the Falcons' lone TDin last week's 41-6 loss to Brookville. Walker had 12 carries for 96 yards, including the 28-yard scoring jaunt. ... QBMichael Orrvick completed 4 of 17 passes for 55 yards last week. ... Union was without QBMatt Gagliano and WRZach Traister in its 47-7 loss at Clarion. Gagliano is listed as questionable this week and Traister will miss the game as both are injured. ... Kurtis Shirey, Clarion's third-string QBlast year, started behind center for the Golden Knights last week. Trent Switzer had a 37-yard TDrun for Union's lone score vs. Clarion.

Quarterback Geoff Landry did all he could, connecting on 24 of 44 passes for 347 yards and four touchdowns. ... Deer Lakes had scored only 42 points in the previous five games. ... The Knights are fresh off their first triumph of the year, a 27-6 win over West Shamokin. ... Quarterback Mike Martin rushed for 108 yards and a score and passed for another to Bijon Marshall. Darnell Jenkins also rushed for one score and caught a touchdown pass from Kevin Goodman. ... Summit Academy rushed for 208 yards and totaled 343 for the game.
