FREEPORT — It's not the yardage that gets your attention, but what Greensburg Central Catholic's David Miller does with it that's scary.

Miller has rushed for 1,090 yards for the Centurions, but has scored 32 touchdowns — averaging about eight yards per carry — and totaled 200 points in helping lead GCC to the Interstate Conference title with an unblemished 9-0 record.

"Most games this season, he's been out by the third quarter," said Centurions' coach Muzzy Colosimo. "He plays half the time a lot of weeks. Some games he gets eight carries. One week he had seven carries and three touchdowns."

That's one weapon Freeport will have to slow down Friday as the Yellowjackets will travel to Greensburg for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff in the opening round of the WPIALClass AA playoffs.

"They're a well-rounded team," said Freeport coachJohn Gaillot. "(Miller) and their blocking back are big and strong."

Gaillot, who helped lead Freeport to the playoffs for the first time since 2003, likens the Centurions to Allegheny Conference foe Shady Side Academy.

"Our conference has very good backs," said Gaillot. "We played very tough against Shady Side Academy (a 17-0 loss) and they have Brian Nickel and Roman San Doval.

"We need to play our game and we need to wrap up and tackle ... It's the playoffs. Anything can happen,"Gaillot added.

Centurions junior quarterback Trent Hurley is a 6-foot-5, 220-pound player who is drawing attention from Notre Dame. Entering GCC's game against Jeannette last Saturday, Hurley has thrown for more than 1,000 yards and completed 72 percent of his passes.

"The first thing he brought was size, and we figured he could throw the ball pretty good," said Colosimo. "Toward summer, he was playing really well in 7-on-7 and we realized he could be someone special. I thought he needed a little experience, but he's been a great leader."

Adam Palcic has been Hurley's leading target this year, averaging 20 yards per catch.

Greensburg Central Catholic snapped Jeannette's 24-game winning streak with an impressive 28-14 win as the two unbeatens vied for the conference title.

The Centurions have outscored their opponents 411-77 and are the top scoring team in Class AA.

"I honestly believe that if the kids play their hearts out, we'll be right there," said Gaillot.

"Kittanning has big linemen. Shady Side Academy has big linemen. I compare them to that," Gaillot added. "A lot of people have overlooked our conference, but there might be a few sleepers."

Freeport (6-3) has won three games in a row and has outscored its opponents 203-116 this season.

The Yellowjackets have been led by junior running back Andy Teorsky, who has rushed for 757 yards on 128 carries and nine touchdowns. Austin Shockey and Jake Campbell have scored three touchdowns, and Tom Blythe and Alan-Michael Wisniewski have added two scores each in the balanced attack.

Quarterback Alex Isenberg, also a junior, has thrown for 693 yards with five touchdowns.

"We didn't know what kind of football team they had," said Colosimo. "We've never played them before, but it looks like they play hard. They come at you offensively and defensively.

"(Teorsky) looks like a pretty decent runner. We saw him (against Deer Lakes) where he had five touchdowns. He's a good back and (Isenberg) seems to be able to make the throws when he has to,"Colosimo added.

Despite the Centurions' dominance this year, Gaillot knows his team will be well-prepared.

"I'm very proud of the kids," said Gaillot. "They've worked hard since May. I made a lot of demands. We wanted to change the attitude, the way we conduct things. We had 45 kids and that's a high number.

"They're anxious. We had some really good practices. The kids were flying around. They're really excited."
