JACKSON TWP — Firefighters, with help from a homeowner, quickly put out a garage fire Tuesday night on Mercer Road.

The Harmony Fire District responded to a report of a garage fire at 305 Mercer Road at 6:08 p.m.

The exterior of the garage, attached to the house, had caught fire from a burning pile in the backyard, Harmony Fire Chief Neal Nanna said.

The man who lives in the house reacted quickly and was able to keep the burning under control with a garden hose until the firefighters arrived and extinguished it.

The house was not damaged, and no one was injured. The damage is estimated at $7,000, Nanna said.
