Ava Plunkard had 22 assists, 12 digs and two aces Monday night as Butler’s girls volleyball team opened the season with a 3-0 victory at Cathedral Prep.

Match scores were 25-17, 25-10, 29-27.

Brynn Morton tallied eight kills and six digs for the Golden Tornado. Brynn Cornibe contributed six kills and two blocks.

Butler hosts West Middlesex Wednesday night.

Boys Golf

Butler’s strong effort, paced by a 35 from Ryan Porch, was too much for Pine-Richland as the Golden Tornado coasted to a 195-206 victory at Slippery Rock Golf Club.

Wyatt Kos and Hunter Swidzinski both added a 39 for Butler (4-3, 2-3).

Pine-Richland’s top golfers included Will Hilton (40), Liam Daniello (40) and Toby Kitay (41).

Boys Soccer

Hunter Berry scored Slippery Rock’s lone goal in a 4-1 loss to Mercyhurst Prep.

The Rockets (1-2) began the season at the West Mifflin Tournament over the weekend, defeating Serra Catholic 6-1 and losing to Thomas Jefferson 2-1. Nick Kingerski scored four of the Rocket goals and Berry had the other three.
