Shields 60th anniversary

C. Edwin and Grace Shields

C. Edwin and Grace Shields of Butler celebrated 60 years of marriage with a family dinner in August at the Butler County Country Club and with a river cruise with friends on American Cruise Lines from St. Louis to Nashville.

Shields married the former Grace Shaffer on Oct. 10, 1959, at St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Birdsboro.

They have three children, Mary Elizabeth Shields of Columbus, Ohio, Vicki Shields Cannon of Shawnee, Kan., and Carl Edwin Shields II of Butler.

They also have six grandchildren.

Shields is the owner of Ed Shields Realtor. He has served in many capacities for many Butler organizations, including the Community Development Corporation of Butler County and the Butler County Association of Realtors. He has taught real estate courses at the Butler County Community College since the college's inception.

He enjoys bridge, traveling and covered bridging.

Mrs. Shields is an ad writer for Ed Shields Realtor and has served as a volunteer for many organizations in Butler, including the Butler County Chapter of the American Red Cross, Girl Scouts, Butler Memorial Hospital Ausxiliary and the Maridon Museum. She is also involved with the Altar Guild at First English Lutheran Church and is the publicity chairwoman for the Antiques Show and Sale for the GFWC Intermediate League of Butler.She enjoys bridge, traveling, reading, bowling and covered bridging.The Shields attend First English Lutheran Church.
