Knute E. Williams, 76, of Butler died early Saturday morning at his home.

Born Nov. 30, 1932, in Oakland Township, he was a son of the late Henry L. and Mary Weiland Williams.

Knute, a retired electrician, was a member of the I.B.E.W. Local 5 in Pittsburgh for more than 50 years.

A member of St. Wendelin Catholic Church in Carbon Center, he also was a member the American Legion Post 117 in Butler and the V.F.W. Post 249. He was a life member of the East Butler Fire Department and the Happy Hunter's Sportsmen's Club in Fenelton, and an honorary life member of the Knights of Columbus Butler Council 866.

A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he had served during the Korean War.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Muriel "Mert" Webb Williams, who he had married May 9, 1959, at St. Wendelin Church. Also surviving are a son, Wayne Williams and his wife, Kim, of Butler; a daughter, Becky Williams of Hallandale Beach, Fla.; three grandchildren, Maci, Chase and Blake Williams; and a sister, Ruth Wallace of Butler.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Henry, Richard and Paul Williams; and four sisters, Dorothy Daubenspeck, Bessie Newell, Marian Kepple and Margaret Deal.

<B>WILLIAMS</B> — Friends of Knute E. Williams, who died Saturday, Oct. 24, 2009, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the <B>Geibel Funeral Home</B>, 201 E. Cunningham St.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Carbon Center, 210 St. Wendelin Road, Butler. Burial will follow at St. Wendelin's Cemetery with military honors being accorded by the Joint Ceremonial Honors Squad of VFW, Post 249 of Butler and the American Legion Post 778 of Lyndora.
