Man, 29, faces felony assault, other charges
BUTLER TWP — A township man is accused of attacking his girlfriend and binding her arms and legs with duct tape so she could not leave their apartment Monday night.
Butler Township police arrested 29-year-old Gary J. Tichansky on felony and other charges in the case that is eerily similar to one from last fall in which he pleaded guilty just four months ago.
Tichansky is being held in the Butler County Prison on $50,000 bail in the latest case.
Police were called just before 7:30 p.m. Monday for a reported domestic dispute between the defendant and Julie Kettner at the couple’s home in the 900 block of Jefferson Street.
Officers said they found Kettner, 37, injured in the back bedroom. She had a bloody lip and mouth, bruises around her face and neck and possibly a broken hand or fingers.
“Kettner was highly upset and crying,” according to a police affidavit.
She claimed Tichansky repeatedly hit her and then used duct tape “to tape her arms and legs down” and keep her from leaving the apartment, court documents said.
Kettner was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for treatment of her injuries. Tichansky was arrested.
He was arraigned on a felony charge of aggravated assault and misdemeanor charges of unlawful restraint, simple assault, reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct.
For police, the incident was somewhat a case of déjà vu.
Officers on Nov. 29 arrested Tichansky after he allegedly tried to restrain Kettner with duct tape during a fight at their apartment.
Moments earlier, the woman claimed, the defendant pulled her to the ground and threatened to kill her.
Kettner recounted that at one point Tichansky “grabbed a roll of duct tape and tried to tape (her) arms and body,” documents said,
The woman told police that she fought back but he took off his belt and tried to put it around her neck.
She managed to break free and get out of the house. But before she could make it to a neighbor’s apartment for help, Tichansky allegedly caught up to her and forced her back into their home.
“The defendant grabbed the roll of duct tape and punched the victim in the nose and face,” a police affidavit said.
Police initially charged Tichansky with aggravated assault, unlawful restraint, terroristic threats, false imprisonment and simple assault.
In April, he pleaded guilty to reckless endangerment. The Butler County District Attorney’s Office, in exchange, dismissed the remaining charges.
Tichansky was sentenced to 6 months’ probation, court records showed.
