Mildred F. Friters, 87, of Willow Road, Karns City, died at 7:15 a.m. Saturday at Parker Personal Care Home.

Mrs. Friters was born in Bradys Bend Township, Armstrong County, on Jan. 17, 1925. She was the daughter of Alfred “Cooney” and Bertha Lillian Lanterman Vensel.

She was a graduate of Fairview Township Karns City High School. During World War II, Mildred was employed by Sonneborn in Petrolia.

She was a member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in North Oakland. A homemaker, she enjoyed flower gardening, sewing, collecting dolls and decorating for the holidays, especially Christmas.

She was married to Ralph Friters in Butler on Aug. 21, 1948. He preceded her in death on Sept. 24, 2012.

Surviving are three children, Patrick R. Friters and his wife, Christy, Linda M. Volaric and her husband, Glenn, and James D. Friters and his wife, Sherry, all of Karns City; five grandchildren, Michael Friters and his wife, Gwynn, of Boynton Beach, Fla., Capt. Matthew Friters, serving with the U.S. Army at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, and his wife, Jackie, of Bel Air, Md., Noah G. Volaric, and Brittney Friters of Karns City; five great-grandchildren, Audrey, Ryan, Jonathan, Alexandria and Tyler; two sisters, Mrs. Lois Campbell of Fairview and Mrs. Sara Schnell and her husband, Lee, of Karns City; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Roberta Vensel of Chicora, and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Candy A. Friters; two brothers, Richard Vensel and Don Bishop; three sisters, Mary Wick, Margaret Fair and Doris Gray; and two brothers-in-law, Dale Campbell and Theodore Friters.

FRITERS — Friends of Mildred F. Friters, who died Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012, will be received at the HILE FUNERAL HOME OF CHICORA, 339 Chicora Fenelton Road, Chicora, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. A funeral liturgy will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Douglas E. Dorula, pastor of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Bradys Bend, officiating. Interment will follow in Bear Creek Cemetery, Petrolia.Memorial contributions in Mrs. Friters memory may be made to the Parker Personal Care Endowment Fund, 103 Seward St., Parker, PA 16049.Online condolences may be sent by visiting www.hilefh.com.
