Raymond Nicholas Dewald

Raymond Nicholas Dewald, 85, of Zelienople, formerly of Cranberry Township, passed away Tuesday while under the tender loving care of the Passavant Retirement Community in Zelienople.

Born Aug. 14, 1931, in Ambridge, Pa., he was the son of the late John J. and Mae T. Dimperfield Dewald.

Ray was a faithful member of St. Ferdinand Catholic Church in Cranberry Township, where he served as an usher and greeter for many years. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Army as a tank commander in the front lines during the Korean War. He retired as an assembler at Leopold Co. in Zelienople.

Ray was an avid fisherman and enjoyed woodworking. Helen and Ray built many stables together for Kraynak's. He loved to bake and was a certified baker for a local bakery where his talent was recognized. He also loved polkas. Ray also was a member of the American Legion in Baden and the Christian Men's Club in Cranberry Township. He will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered.

Ray leaves behind to cherish his memory, his beloved wife of 49 years, Helen J. Goehring Dewald, who he married April 8, 1967; his brother, John T. Dewald of West View; and his sister, Mae T. Poser of Ross Township.

He also is survived by his nieces and nephews, John's children, Jack, Ronald (Grace), Linda (Joachim), Robert (Patty) and Dan (Kathleen); Mae's children, George, Joseph (Christine) and Mary Beth (Todd); and his late brother, Bert Dewald's children, Marcella (Steve), Marie and Thomas.

In addition to his parents and his brother, Ray was preceded in death by his beloved dog, Retina.

DEWALD — Friends of Raymond Nicholas Dewald, who died Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2016, will be received from 1 to 3 p.m. and from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Boylan-Glenn-Kildoo Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 130 Wisconsin Ave., Cranberry Township.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Ferdinand Catholic Church, 2535 Rochester Road, Cranberry Township, with the Rev. John Gallagher as celebrant. He will be laid to rest at the Pinewood Memorial Gardens in Cranberry Township.The family suggests that memorial donations be made in Ray's honor to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.Expressions of sympathy may be shared with Ray's family at www.boylanfuneralservices.com.
