Mabel Martin

Mabel A. Martin, 86, of Butler, formerly of Herman, passed away Friday at the VNA Inpatient Hospice Unit.

Born March 16, 1924, in Winfield Township, she was the daughter of the late Stephen and Anna M. Wagner Cypher.

She was a former housekeeper at the St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church. She also was formerly employed at St. Mary of the Assumption School, St. Mary Monastery and St Fidelis Seminary.

Mabel was a member of the St. Mary of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church in Herman, where she was a longtime volunteer for parish functions. She was a faithful servant of God and had a great devotion to the Blessed Mother. She also was a member of the Christian Mothers of the St. Mary Parish and the Jefferson Grange.

Her family was her greatest love, and she was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She also enjoyed cooking and gardening, and her greatest joy was always sharing with others.

She is survived by six children, Carole (Dennis) Oresick of Herman, Alan (Paula Conerty) Martin of Butler, David (Bonnie Bacher) Martin of Butler, Marianne (Louis) Collins of Butler, Gary (Louise Galan) Martin of Herman and Diane (Bob) Greaves of Connoquenessing; 14 grandchildren, Dutch and Eric MacDonald, Jeremy, Michael and Sean Martin, Kelly (Joss) Witzel, Heidi and Adam Martin, Sarah (Carmen) DiLeo, Tricia (Derek) Hyatt, Ben Collins, Kristin Martin, and Joe and Tom Greaves; six great-grandchildren, Ashley and Jace MacDonald, Max and Toby MacDonald-Mingo, Leela Hyatt and Sophia DiLeo. Also surviving are one sister, Mary H. Schiebel of Butler; a special niece, Mary Ann Maier; two sisters-in–law, Bea Cypher of Cabot, and Gertrude Cypher of Herman; as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph J. Martin, who passed away Dec. 9, 1996; four brothers, and two sisters.

<B>MARTIN </B>— Friends of Mabel A. Martin, who died Friday, Dec. 3, 2010, will be received in the <B>Martin Funeral Home</B>, 429 Center Ave., Butler, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at the St. Mary of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church in Herman at 11 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.The family requests memorial donations to the VNA Inpatient Hospice, to St. Mary of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church, or to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.Information also is available at www.martinfh.net.
