HARRISBURG — A state trooper who thought he was chatting with a 13-year-old girl sent her a webcam video of him dancing in the nude, then urged her to delete any record of their conversation, authorities said Thursday after charging him with crimes.

Douglas Nick Sversko, 43, of Lewisburg was the first trooper to be arrested by the attorney general's Child Predator Unit since it was created in January 2005, said spokesman Nils Frederiksen.

Sversko, who state police said has been suspended without pay, was arrested Wednesday and charged with unlawful contact with a minor and criminal use of a computer. He is free on $100,000 bail, officials said.

Sversko didn't immediately return a voice mail message left at what was believed to be his home telephone number. It was unclear whether he had an attorney.

PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh police say a man threatened to toss a grenade before throwing a jar of rubber cement at a narcotics detective before the suspect was arrested after a short chase.Shawn Dillard, 20, remained in the Allegheny County Jail Thursday, a day after his arrest on charges including drug possession and resisting arrest.The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review is reporting that Dillard threatened to throw a grenade at the detective, who had just watched Dillard complete a suspected drug deal about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday. Instead, Dillard threw the glue jar from the moon roof of his car and sped away, but crashed a short distance away.Police say they found 15 individual dose stamp bags of heroin, some marijuana and $200 in Dillard's car.Dillard faces a preliminary hearing Feb. 23.

ALLENTOWN — Several newspapers are seeking to open a sealed state Supreme Court case that could affect Pennsylvania's abortion law.The case involves a minor who was denied permission for an abortion by an Allegheny County judge. State law allows a minor to seek a judge's permission if she can't get it from her parents.The teenager appealed to Superior Court and lost. She then appealed to the Supreme Court, which has yet to hear the case.It's unclear if she had the baby, because the case is sealed to protect her identity.The papers want the case opened only to examine the judges' interpretations of the law.The petition was filed Thursday by The Morning Call of Allentown, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, The Philadelphia Inquirer, Philadelphia Daily News and the Pennsylvania Newspaper Association.

SCRANTON — A federal jury is deliberating in the corruption trial of a former northeastern Pennsylvania judge charged in a $2.8 million scheme involving two privately owned juvenile detention centers.Deliberations resumed Thursday morning in the trial of ex-Luzerne County Judge Mark Ciavarella. The former judge faces a 39-count federal racketeering indictment that alleges he and another judge took kickbacks and extortion payments from the builder and co-owner of the detention facilities.Ciavarella acknowledged receiving hundreds of thousands of dollars from the builder but contended the payments were legal “finder’s fees.”The state Supreme Court tossed thousands of juvenile convictions issued by Ciavarella, saying he violated defendants’ rights.
