Nancy M. Smith
Nancy M. Smith, 80, of North Washington passed away Tuesday surrounded by her family.
Born in Pittsburgh to James and Laura Baney, Nancy married the love of her life, William Smith, and together they raised their eight beautiful children, William (Deb) Smith Jr., Richard (Linda) Smith, Ronald (Deborah) Smith, Jeana (Mark) Ness, Randal (Pamela) Smith, Jessica Buckley, George (Jo) Smith and Edward (Shelby) Smith.
Nancy and Bill were blessed with 62 years of marriage. Together they shared the joys of life, family, friends, life on the farm, vacations, cooking together in the kitchen and a good game of Rummikub.
Nancy will be remembered for her warmth and love. No one ever left her house with an empty stomach or an aching heart. A multiple-cancer survivor, she served as a friend and inspiration to others at the Butler Breast and Women's Cancer Support Group. She never let cancer get in the way of living life.
After her retirement from the state liquor stores, she enjoyed wintering in Florida, trips to the casino, playing bingo and lunch out with friends.
Her greatest joy in life was her grandchildren, Karen Cary, Christopher Stewart, Matthew Ness, Ricky Smith, Andrew Ness, Brittany Smith, Nancy Anderson, Nicholas Buckley, Krista Winslow, Brandie Smith, Laura Ness, Aaron Hollis, Amber Smith, Daniel Buckley, Ryan Buckley, Lewis Smith, Collin Lunn and A.J. Smith. She also loved her great-grandchildren and her cat, Snowball. Their pictures covered her refrigerator and adorned her walls. She instilled in each of them the importance of family, to show strength in adversity and to trust in God.
Nancy was greeted in heaven by her parents and three of her grandchildren, Robert Smith, William J. Smith III and Shirley Smith.
Some people leave this world a better place just because they were in it. Nancy Smith was one of those people.
