Dominick J. “Mickey” Varano
Dominick J. “Mickey” Varano, 73, of Butler, passed away Thursday evening at his residence.
Born in Butler on Aug. 26, 1943, he was a son of the late Samuel and Elizabeth Codispot Varano.
He was a former insurance agent for American General Life Insurance Company. He was also the produce manager at Center Avenue Shop ’n Save until it closed and he was employed at AK Steel until his retirement in 2004.
He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the U.S. Army.
Dominick was a member of Saint Paul Roman Catholic Church.
He was also a member of American Legion Post 117 and a life member of VFW Post 249. He was a past member of the Italian Society of Butler.
Dedicated to his family, he loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was an avid golfer and bowler, and he enjoyed watching sports, especially baseball.
Dominick is survived by his former wife, Elaine Myers Varano of Butler; two sons, Dominick M. Varano of Butler and Christopher D. Varano and his wife, Angela, of Butler; one daughter, Angela E. Birch and her husband Timothy, of Fenelton; four grandchildren, Karli and Jesse Birch of Fenelton and Haley and Julia Varano of Butler; one sister, Mary Ann Henry of Prospect; one brother, Pasquale “Pat” Varano of Butler; a brother-in-law; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Josephine Varano, Constance “Connie” Cavalero and Rachel Northime; and one infant brother.
VARANO — Private visitation for the family of Dominick J. “Mickey” Varano, who died Thursday, Jan. 26, 2017, will be held on Tuesday from 11 a.m. until noon at Martin Funeral Home 429 Center Ave., Butler.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Tuesday at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, 128 N. McKean St., Butler. Everyone please meet at the church.
Burial will take place in Saint Michael’s Cemetery.
Saint Paul Catholic Women and Christian Mothers will meet at the church at 12:35 p.m. Tuesday to recite the rosary.
Military Honors will be accorded at the cemetery by VFW Post 249, American Legion Post 778, and American Legion Post 117.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Martin Funeral Home of Butler.
