SRU Athletic Hall of Fame adding 7
SLIPPERY ROCK — Seneca Valley graduate and Rock football great Brandon Fusco and longtime Slippery Rock University athletic director Paul Lueken are among the seven individuals scheduled to be inducted into the SRU Athletic Hall of Fame Oct. 8.
The induction dinner will take place at 2:30 p.m. at the Slippery Rock Golf Club and Event Center. A social hour will begin at 1:30 p.m. The festivities will preclude the 6 p.m. Mercyhurst-SRU football game at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.
Joining Fusco and Lueken for induction are track and field standouts Jenn Hansen Chittenden and Karyn McCready, football great LaMonte Coleman, men’s soccer star Jeremy Deighton and field hockey and swimming star Jane Morrison.
SRU’s unbeaten 1969-70 wrestling team (19-0) will also be recognized. Current Butler High School assistant wrestling coach Fred Powell was head coach of that team, which included eventual Olympic bronze medalist Stan Dziedzic and fellow unbeatens Bill Schellhorn and Dave Chalfont.
That trio of wrestlers became SRU’s first three state champions that year.
Tickets for the dinner are $50 if ordered by Sept. 5. Tables of eight are available for $400. Children under 12 will be admitted for $20. Call the SRU athletic office at 724-738-4117.
