Mattress fire doused in Penn TownshipPENN TWP — Firefighters on Monday afternoon put out a mattress fire at 325 Logan Road.According to Charlie May of the Penn Township Volunteer Fire Department, the officer-in-charge at the scene, the fire was stopped before spreading, but there was smoke damage.He provided no further information, including a damage estimate.The Saxonburg Volunteer Fire Company assisted Penn Township in responding to the 3:08 p.m. 911 call.

Butler School Board reelects 2 officersBUTLER TWP — The Butler School Board had its reorganization meeting, reelecting the current president and vice-president for the next calendar year.The reorganization meeting is mandated by the state to happen during the first full week of December, according to solicitor Tom King.On Monday night, Nina Teff was reelected as president for her second year, and Jennifer Cummings was reelected as vice president for her second year.Both Teff and Cummings are entering their second years as members of the school board as well.Teff beat board member Neil Convery 5-3 for the presidency.Cummings also won 5-3 against board member Al Vavro.Board member Bill Halle abstained from voting for both president and vice president, saying he does not want to be involved with the politics of it.

SV School Board changes presidentsJACKSON TWP — The Seneca Valley School Board will have a different president in 2017.Jim Nickel of Cranberry Township was voted unanimously to be the new president at the board’s reorganization meeting Monday night, district director of communications Linda Andreassi said.Eric DiTullio, a Lancaster Township resident and the board’s president in 2016, will now serve as vice president.Nickel had been vice president for three years while DiTullio had been president for three years.
