2 sky-watching events set at Moraine State Park

Skywatchers will have two programs at Moraine State Park this week to take in a celestial show.

There will be a full moon paddle from 7:30 to 10 p.m. Thursday to allow kayakers to travel across Lake Arthur under the light of a full moon. Participants will meet at the Old 422 Launch by the Region 2 office on the Prospect exit off Route 422. A limited number of kayaks are available.

Participation is for ages 12 and older, and those under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Kayak and gear provided, or take your own. Life jackets required to be worn. Pre-registration required. To register, call the park office 724-368-8811.

The next night the Preston’s Pearl pontoon boat will travel the lake to take in the Perseid Meteor Shower. The voyage, leaving from the McDanel’s Launch Area on the North Shore, will last from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m., the height of the meteor shower. Take in the sight from the top of the observation deck of the Preston’s Pearl boat with the park naturalist and volunteers of the Moraine Preservation Fund. Seating is limited.

Pre-registration is required. Call the Owlet Gift Shop at 724-368-9185.
